Love at First Sight in Los Carrizales
Years ago, I visited one of Tenerife’s most extraordinary canyons, Los Carrizales, for the very first time. And as they say, it was love at first sight. That was the moment I fell in love with canyoning.
I was completely captivated by the wild beauty of the place, its untouched nature, and the feeling of being so close to the water. There is something truly special about exploring a canyon this way. You don’t just walk through a valley – you become part of nature itself. You rappel down waterfalls, jump into natural rock pools, and slide down smooth rock formations carved by water over thousands of years.
That was the moment I knew canyoning would become much more than just a hobby for me.
Los Carrizales – Tenerife’s Natural Adventure Park
Los Carrizales doesn’t give you much time to rest. The challenges come one after another, keeping your adrenaline levels high almost throughout the entire adventure. There are hardly any sections where you need to walk long distances or where your attention can truly relax.
Since that first experience, I’ve explored countless canyons across Europe. I’ve seen enormous waterfalls, technically demanding canyons, and rivers with incredible water flow.
Although one of the weaknesses of Los Carrizales is its relatively low water flow (a2), it remains an incredibly special place to me.
The 3–4 hours of natural water slides, jumps, and rappels, surrounded by black volcanic rocks, crystal-clear pools, and constantly changing challenges, take adventurers into a unique world that is difficult to find anywhere else.
And that’s one of the most beautiful things about canyoning. It’s not necessarily the highest waterfall or the most difficult rappel that makes a canyon unforgettable. It’s the entire experience.
Hundreds of Guided Canyoning Adventures Later – My Second Home
Over the years, I’ve guided hundreds of canyoning trips, and today I can genuinely call this extraordinary canyon my second home.
I know almost every rock and every corner by heart, along with all the natural slides, jumping spots, and rappelling sections.
As a professional canyoning guide, one of my most important responsibilities is to help my guests experience the excitement of canyoning as safely as possible, without taking away the sense of discovery and adventure.
Because that’s exactly what makes this sport so special!
At most obstacles, there are different ways to continue. While some people are happy to jump into a natural pool, others prefer to descend using a rope. Not everyone finds the same things challenging, and that’s perfectly fine.
The goal isn’t for everyone to complete the exact same challenges. It’s for each person to push their own limits and return home with unforgettable memories.
A Canyon That Is Constantly Changing
Los Carrizales is never exactly the same.
Over the years, winter rains and powerful storms continuously reshape the canyon. Rocks move, natural pools fill with sediment, and sometimes even familiar obstacles change completely.
As canyoning guides, we do our best to take care of the extraordinary natural environment in which we work. We monitor these changes, inspect the necessary anchors and safety equipment, and always aim to leave as little impact on nature as possible.
After all, this canyon isn’t just our workplace. It’s a natural treasure that we want to protect and preserve for many years to come.
Why Do We Limit Our Groups to Just 6 People?
Over the years, I’ve realized that the quality of a canyoning experience depends greatly on the size of the group.
That’s why I decided to limit our Los Carrizales canyoning trips to a maximum of 6 guests per guide.
The reason is simple.
In smaller groups, I can give everyone more personal attention, provide individual assistance at each obstacle, and avoid long waiting times while others complete a rappel or jump.
This makes the entire adventure smoother, more personal, and much more enjoyable.
For me, quality has always been more important than quantity.
A Bucket-List Adventure in Tenerife
Even after so many years and countless adventures, I still return to this canyon with the same excitement I felt on my very first visit.
And perhaps that’s exactly why I love my job so much.
Every time, I meet new people and have the opportunity to introduce them to the extraordinary world that captured my heart all those years ago.
Some people experience their very first rope descent. Others jump into a natural rock pool for the first time in their lives. And sometimes, someone finishes the adventure having overcome a fear they never thought they could conquer.
These are the moments that make this work so rewarding.
I hope that one day you’ll have the chance to discover this amazing place for yourself and understand why I fell in love with canyoning all those years ago.
I would love to welcome you on one of our next adventures!
